In the Joy Luck Club, the book starts off with the death of Suyuan Woo. Suyuan died without fulfilling her long dream to be reunited with her twin daughters in China. Suyuan’s American born daughter, June, took her mother's place as the leader of the Joy Lluck Cclub. Through the Joy Lluck Club, June finds out that her sisters are alive and in China. She is then funded by her aunties to find them. June never did feel as close to her mom as she wished because of how different they were. At the end of the book, June meets her half sisters and with that, her mother's dream is fulfilled. Through the process of meeting her sisters she finally feels close to her mother. Like many others, the men in Joy luck Club valued the feeling of power very much. Many women had absolutely no say in what they did or what would happen in their future. Jong is a great example. She shows herself as powerless compared to her husband. Her husband uses her for many things, resulting in her being sexually assaulted. “Why do you have to use me to show me off.”. This relates to the point of love because they (who?) show off their wives like prizes. It's degrading to think that in China, women are powerless to men.

According to many people, fate isn't something we believe in. Whereas in Joy Luck Club, fate is believed by many women. The mothers quite often refers to the predetermined outcomes to move throughout their lives. Lindo is arranged to marry a rich man named Tyan-yu,. bBased on the predetermined outcomes that they will be happy together. When the candle burns out signaling the end of their marriage, Lindo believes fate has relieved her.
