Words can have a powerful effect in your life. Words can be hurtful to a person, they can be helpful to a person, and they can also change a person’s emotions quickly. In past experience and reading The Book Thief it became evident how the power of words affect all humans. The first way that words are powerful is how they come to hurt people. This is shown in The Book Thief when Liesel steals and reads many books and she develops a vision of how words make people do cruel things. She begins to see how Hitler’s propaganda leads people in the wrong direction afterward he is able to brainwash Germans by using words and persuade them to kill the Jews when the Jews had not done anything wrong. I have encouragement from my family, friends, and organizations like the 4-H and the Wheat & Feed Grains Committee. In the local 4-H contest “Quail Forever” project my family helped me plant the habitat seed and nurture them so they would survive the heat and drought season this year in Alabama. This gained up the first place ribbon and the prize money. We were also awarded the first place position in the “Highest Yield” statewide contest through the Wheat & Feed Grains Committee, where we will receive a nice plaque and award money. We have been congratulated and encouraged by numerous 4-H competitors and other farmers. The third way words are powerful is how they can change people’s emotions. For example during school a person might feel depressed or sad and someone comes up to them, excited and tries to include them in an activity. The emotions of that person often change immediately and they are happy and become excited. In The Book Thief Liesel often tells how she loves to read and loves the power of words.
