Power Struggle In Macbeth's Abusive Relationship

In the tragedy of Macbeth, Shakespeare establishes a power struggle between lady Macbeth and Macbeth causing an abusive relationship. In the tragedy of wuthering heights, Heathcliff and isabella have a very physically abusive relationship. The abuse in both of these is caused by a struggle for power in the relationship. Lady Macbeth just wants Macbeth to give her control while isabella wants Heathcliff to give her the love and control she craves. Often times you can see these same struggles for power leading to a mentally or physically abusive relationship in today's relationships.

Macbeth and Heathcliff find themselves in the same situation of being in a relationship of which they are both looking for something other than what their spouse wants. Lady Macbeth does not trust that Macbeth can handle killing and whatever else may have to take place in order to rise to power. In wuthering heights, isabella does not have trust in Heathcliff about him and Catherine. Isabella does not trust or believe that Heathcliff has no feelings for Catherine and for a good reason. Lady Macbeth makes claims to say that Macbeth is a coward and will not be able to kill or do what is needed to become king.

Lady Macbeth is mentally abused by the neglect given to her by the mentally deranged Macbeth. But Macbeth's mental state is all because of lady Macbeth telling him he can't do things and challenging his manhood. Heathcliff mentally abuses isabella by not being in love with her. He neglects to give her the love she so badly wants and physically abuses he on top of that and this leads to a mentally deteriorating relationship in which causes her to later leave.
