When you decide that power walking is something that you would enjoy doing every day, you still want to treat it like any other exercise. By planning out everything before you do the exercise to ensure that you do the exercise efficiently and safely. The more knowledge you gain about the exercise, the better you will be able to do it.

First, you need to prepare your body by stretching all of the main muscles that will be used as you are walking. Although power walking may not sound like an exercise that is especially strenuous, you still want to treat it like any other exercise. Any other exercise you do without stretching, you are likely to get a cramp or be very sore afterwards.

Lengthening your stride is the second most important part of your preparation for power walking. Stretching your hamstrings and calf muscles is the most effective way to lengthen your stride. By stretching these muscles, they will allow you to take larger steps without pulling a muscle.

By lengthening your stride, you will be taking bigger steps. This will put a lot of strain on your legs, making them stronger and plus you will cover more ground in a shorter amount of time.

After you have completed your workout, make sure you have a cool down workout planned after you are done. Slowly walking and stretching after your workout is a great way to put your muscles at ease. Steady breathing and walking will ensure a healthy recovery for your muscles.

Some people enjoy practicing power walking on a treadmill before doing it outside. Some people actually prefer power walking on a treadmill because of the privacy it provides.
