Educational Philosophy & Practice
Every child can learn. Children are unique individuals and need a positive learning environment that is secure, nurturing and thought-provoking which allows them to grow physically, socially, cognitively and emotionally. As an educator, my goal is to help students achieve their maximum potential in these areas by providing a secure environment that also invites risk-taking and peer sharing. Three elements conducive to a positive learning environment are:

1. Respect- for everyone, for everything and for yourself

Classroom discussions that encourage student input helps students to feel heard and be free to express theirselves in an acceptable manner. This builds confidence and security, both of which contribute to a safe and warm environment.

Students develop a deeper respect for their teachers and classmates when they know that their thoughts and feelings are important, they feel respected and in turn learn to respect their teacher, classmates and their environment.

2. Teacher Guidance – Teacher guiding the students and presenting meaningful lessons
The teacher presents the lesson and provides the means for students to access the necessary information to complete their task. When students learn to find the answers to their own inquiry, quality learning takes place.

Quality teaching includes lesson planning and delivery method selection with consideration for a variety of learning styles in order to appeal to the student’s interests which helps to foster intrinsic motivation in the self directed learner. By providing sound examples, short demonstrations, comprehensive reference for students to self check, along with clear expectations, the teacher can guide the students on their path to
