This research problem is very relevant to the actual practice of nursing because certain elements can affect the mental health of individuals. Particularly in this study, children are the most vulnerable to criticism as it can often deteriorate their self-esteem and make them more susceptible to behavioral issues. By informing the parents that the use of criticism can negatively impact their child’s mental health and teaching them to increase the amount of praise, it will improve their child mental health. Therefore, the nurse needs to educate the parent to utilize more praise than criticism. This research study is quantitative. The researchers were eager to obtain the frequency of the parent’s use of praise and criticism related to what the parents perceive and what their actual behavior was. The study found that through observation the parent criticize their child three times more than what they said they praise them for. (Polit & Beck, 2018). The purpose of this study is description. The parent plays a significant role in the development of the child, and factor such as depression can impact both, the child and the parent. The relationship between the parent and child should be observed to see if a healthy relationship is established. Thus, unhealthy relationship should be reported so the nurse can educate the parent on healthy ways to establish the relationship. The research is most relevant to those individuals who work with children such as a primary clinic. If the finding were accurate, I would be very observant to the behavior, feeling and communication of the parent and child.
