Production Pipeline Research • pre production Pre-Production is the first phase in the 3D production pipeline and is where the direction of the project takes form. This is the phase where original ideas and concepts, such as setting, characters and style, are derived and refined to create a basis on which production can be started. (Boudon, 2014) The Pre-production stage also develops the path on which the project will follow by outlining the abilities and aesthetics that the model will require. (Wideopenspace, n.d.)These concepts are often conveyed through the use of concept art and storyboards which act as a graphic representation on how the video/animation will unfold. (GoAnimate, 2012) This is key in visualizing key aspects such as characters or vehicles. • 3d modelling 3D Modelling is the second phase in the 3D production pipeline and is where the actual 3D model is created. This phase takes the concepts created in Pre-production and turns them into 3D models for further use (Boudon, 2014). 3D Modelling can be defined as “the process of creating a 3D representation of any surface or object by manipulating polygons, edges and …show more content…
UV Mapping is the process of making a 2D representation of a 3D model through the unwrapping of the 3D model. (Make Human, 2012) UV’s are 2D texture coordinates that link the pixels in a 2D image to the geometry of a 3D model. (UV Mapping, n.d.) UV’s are essential as they provide a connection between the surface of the 3D model and how the 2D image texture gets mapped onto that surface, understanding UV’s and how to map them effectively is necessary for producing textures on any 3D model. (Autodesk, 2014) Although many programs have features to paint directly onto a 3D the art of UV mapping is used to assign textures to a 3D by creating a 2D image mesh that can easily be edited in a number of programs such as
