Living in Nicaragua, I have developed many relationships among the lower class. These relationships gave me time to reflect upon myself and be grateful for the resources I have. Communicating and spending my time with the children on my parents' mission site, I have come to understand the children and their circumstances of financial hardship. This time of serving gave me a time to understand myself and helped determine my future goals in my academic life and career. One particular relationship I had was with a boy named Kenner.

I was watching TV with my older brother bored flipping through channels as we came across a news channel that was reporting about a shooting in Surrey. We looked at the mug shots and my brother recognized that it was one of his high school friends. We were both shocked that after a couple of years that he was suspected to be responsible for a shooting. My parents also felt so disappointed as they knew the parents of the boy. I was never the perfect student, nor was I always perfectly behaved. I understand that there are more people like this, that is why I strive to help others in achieving their own personal goals. Spending time at school tutoring sessions, and the school band program has allowed me to help people in the way that I strive to. I am able to help people become better at a school subject that they may be struggling with, or even teach someone how to play certain type of percussion instrument that they may not have known how to play. I want to be able to look back on those experiences and know that I may have inspired someone to help others in the same way that I did for them.

We have grown up around the same area too and now we both attend the University of Maryland.
You would n ever know by looking at me or talking to me that my family and I have been homeless before. For the kids that have been homeless before it doesn't make you any less worthy, or intelligent than anyone else. There are many things you can do not only to help yourself with the feelings of being embarrassed or ashamed but you can also help others like you, be apart of organizations, and volunteer your time to others that have been in our situation of being homeless so they can feel better and know it ’s okay.

A couple of weeks before I turned eight my little brother was born. They have impacted my life way more than they realize. Being an older sister has shaped me into the person I am today in school and class, because I’ve learned how to cope with different things, learned that people like to do things their own way and I have learned how to set a good example. I have learned how to cope with things I don’t like very much being a big sister.
Since I was young, I have been passionate about lending a hand, to a person I felt needed support and this passion helped shape what my future may hold. An event happened that has been instrumental in developing my character and guiding my choices ever since. It was a late summer night and it was almost midnight when my soccer game ended, After the game, I ran into the washroom because I was dying to ease myself.
