Crash is a movie released in 2004. The movie deals with racial stereotyping and different incidents with different people. In the plot there is a black detective that is estranged from his mother and has a brother that is a criminal that also has a side kick that he works with. A white couple, the father is an attorney and the wife has a tendency to stereotype people. Two police officers and one of them is a racist and harassed an African American couple, that are in the show business.
The documentary was informative about information that is discussed globally, but is not explained in full detail about the negative aspects that non-political people actually see. For example, the “war on drugs,” was originally started by President Nixon. The rumored main objective was to throw black people away and antiwar left. I believe that white people were fearful of black people after the 13th amendment was passed, which formally ended slavery in 1865. From 1865 till now, some people still express that fear because black people have all the freedoms and rights that everyone else has.
Mexican American studies is a class offered to many students around the world so that they can learn about their ethnicity and culture backgrounds. In the documentary Precious Knowledge, there had been about 48% of Mexican American students from Tucson High that would drop out of school or not graduate. Then they decided to get an ethnic studies class. The class was a huge success and since then Tucson High had close to 100% of students graduating every year, and 85% going on to college.
Dolores del Rio was frequently casted for movie roles that embodied the “exotic” and “foreign” appeal popular in the 1920s. In the silent drama film The Loves of Carmen directed by Raoul Walsh in 1927, del Rio is depicted as a Spanish gypsy, Carmen, who has the power to seduce any man. This documentary made me really take a step back and think about what it means to be white and how it can be abused so if more are made then maybe more people can be reached. One of the more well-known and documented acts of political violence started in the colonial era when “Nathaniel Bacon and a sizable number of Virginians rose up in armed rebellion against the royal governor of the colony in 1676.” (Britanica) It was the result of Bacon and the then Gov. Berkeley having two different viewpoints about Indians and colony expansion. Berkeley did not want to remove the Indians for fear of war with the Indians as well as trade being interrupted. Berkeley eventually “launched military expeditions against Bacon” (Britanica) and his colonialists.

In the film, Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele, Peele claims that acts of casual racism are aimed at ethnic minorities. Peele begins to build his credibility by addressing issues of casual racism in the text, targeting the White liberals as his audience, using constraints to encourage empathy for his character Chris, and by covering the controversial issue of America being a “post-racial” society as the exigence in Get Out. Peele, a comedy writer, actor, and ethnic minority, has been praised for his portrayal on his hit comedy show
In the program I watched I saw racial bias. The video shows how children are more inclined to believe positive things about their race, and negative things about other races. For example, the white children believed the ugly, dumbest, and meanest child was the darkest kids, and vice versa for blacks. I believe this is because the environment around them subject them to think like that. I feel as if society has placed races a certain role to play.
Hollywood has been known for keeping latinos in their “racial lane.” Latinos have faced many challenges throughout the years in Hollywood due to racial stereotypes. Racial stereotypes in Hollywood typically include parts like, maids, housekeepers, immigrants and criminals. Although there's nothing wrong with being a maid or a housekeeper, it is wrong to stereotype all latinos as undocumented, uneducated criminals. For example, the late actress Lupe Ontiveros had recalled playing a maid 150 times during her acting career.
It Bites Back In The End In the novel, The Hate U Give, a memorable quote states,“Listen!, The Hate U--the letter U--Give Little Infants F*** Everybody. T-H-U-G L-I-F -E. Meaning what society gives us as youth, it bites them in the a** when we wild out,”(Thomas, 32).
We can learn by examining hate, is that it can become so intense it becomes a form of illness. Hate is something that will always be in the back of our heads, even when we are not thinking about it. Hate is something strong that we are not able to shake off, it’s something that is taught throughout our lives. I believe mediation groups work to help people move beyond hate, mediation is a form that keeps you calm and relax. It’s a time when you really think of what you are doing in your life, and what you are going through.

The movie Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood depicts racism and redemption through the life of Walt Kowalski. The movie portrays Kowalski as a retired automobile worker and Korean war veteran who is a bigot towards his neighbors. This character carries a negatively biased perspective regarding his Asian, and African-American neighbors in the majority of the film. Kowalski meets Thao vang Lor a Hmong teenager who lives next door when he attempts to steal Kowalski’s most precious possession, The Gran Torino. From their encounter, a strong bond between Kowalski and Thao develops through the film that works as a catalyst to make Kowalski redeem himself and change his negative perspective regarding his neighbors.
I love the point brought up during the documentary that we cannot help the fact that we were born the color we are. No matter if we are considered white or a person of color. Each one of us has our daily struggles with this issue. Some people get offended way to easily when others are speaking about race. I feel that everyone should be able to feel comfortable being able to talk about race rather than being scared that they will get the race card thrown at
