In the novel “Sula” the racism comes to play a major rule in two girls life Nel and Sula.
The novel is focused on two girls living in medallion experiencing different aspects of life such as sexual. Nel and Sula both came from different families but they both get really attached to each other and they shared everything with each other. In this novel community have major impact on people living in Medallion. Community helped each other and they also accept some things such as accepting shadrack and blaming Sula for everything while she was alive and feeling bored when she was dead. We can infer that Sula is trying to act like white community who had more freedom than black community. Women in the community started to take good care of their husbands because Sula slept with a lot of different men just like her mother Hannah. Mothers in the community started blaming everything to Sula. For instance, When Teapot Fainted and fell her mother thought she pushed her but doctor Stated “Poor diet had contributed substantially to the witness of his bones”( Pg 114). Everyone thought Sula's birthmark is a sign of a death. When Sula was very ill no one in the community cared about her instead of Nel because Sula was her other half. People in Medallion were more scared of Sula then White people because after the death of Sula Peace, community in Medallion was bored and Wives stop protecting their husbands and Teapot’s mother started beating him up. On the national suicide day more people joined shadrack and people destroyed the tunnel because it belonged to the white people and then they died, The idea of working together and dying
