Frankenstein The author of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, was on August 30, 1797 in London. She is the daughter of well-known feminist Mary Wollenstonecroft and philosopher William Godwin. Mary Shelley eloped at the age of 16 to Percy Shelley, who was a married man at the time, and they got married in 1816. Shelley experienced many losses in her lifetime. Her mother died in childbirth and her half-sister completed suicide. Mary Shelley’s first child died days after birth and she became a widow at the age of 25 when Percy drowned in 1822. She never remarried and died on February 1, 1851. In 1816, Shelley went on a trip to Switzerland when she began to write seriously. The idea for Frankenstein came from a ghost story competition. When Justine is sleeping in the barn, the creature kills her just since she is a woman. He doesn’t know anything about Justine and he thinks that she is just like all the other women and will never love him. The creature is prejudiced based on his appearance.During his trip to Geneva, the creature saves a little girl from drowning in a river but ends up getting shot in the shoulder. The creature is still considered a villain, even though he is a hero for saving that girls life. When the creature travels to the villages, the humans assume the creature is dangerous based on his appearance when in reality, he is very kind and open-hearted. This leads to him being rejected by everybody and brings us to the theme of
