Both books To Kill a Mocking Bird and Black Like Me both have a lot of prejudice in them. To kill a Mocking Bird is a fictional story while Black Like Me is non-fiction. To Kill a Mocking Bird is about two children Jem and Scout and many other characters who are growing up. It also shows the struggle of living in that time period. Black like me again a non-fiction piece while also showing the struggle of living in that time period. Is about a man John Howard Griffin how decided to "switch" races and walk among the African Americans and bring light to the bad situation as if he was one of them. The quote “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (Atticus said to Scout). Works for both stories and is very true for that time period. Both Black like me. As well as To Kill a Mocking Bird deal with a lot of this. John became "black" to show everyone that what they were doing was wrong. An instance where you really don't know some until you step in their shoes is the whole novel for John. John became "black" he had a total culture change. John went from being treated with respect and kindness to being treated every day like it was trash day. John became one of them and he had to become accustomed to the African American lifestyle he didn't know just how life would be until he "joined" it. Both Black like me and To Kill a Mocking bird have the quote throughout the book. Whether it was from being spit in the face to having a whole culture change. In both books there are a lot of hardships and prejudice. But there is one thing in common they both show that you really don't know someone until you step into their
