Imagine you are a teenage boy and you fall into the wrong crowd. You get caught making a mistake and your father agrees to lock you up in your house. You are now a severely socially underdeveloped adult, and the whole town spreads untrue rumors about you, even though you’re a good, innocent person. This is the case of a character in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. This is a story about an attorney, Atticus Finch, father of Jean Louise “Scout” Finch and Jeremy “Jem” Finch, defending a black man, Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. This story takes place in Maycomb County, Alabama, in the 1930’s and the Jim Crow Era. Scout and Jem both have encounters with a man named Boo Radley, who is lied about throughout the town.
