Most of us have been at a gas station before, whether you're there to fill up or get something from the stations convenient store we’ve all seen the gas advertisements. Depending on where you go, for example, Exxon, Shell, USA Gas, Chevron you’ve seen the three types of gasoline, which may include premium and normal. Have you ever wondered what’s the difference? Premium gas is advertised as more fuel efficient, environmentally friendly, and is overall expensive. But is premium gas really better for your car? Premium Gasoline must be premium for a reason, right? The definition of Premium is "a high value or a value in excess of that normally or usually expected," according to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. First, you may think that all cars that recommend premium always need to run on premium, I can see where this misconception comes from. Not all cars that recommend premium need to run on premium gas. Cadillac, Lincoln, Hyundai, and Lexus are just some of the car companies that manufacture luxury cars that recommend premium gas but run on regular. Another argument could be that Premium is good for keeping your car’s engine clean. Know this may be true but experts say that because of government regulations aimed at cutting emissions, all different types of octane gasoline have plenty of additives to both protect engines and cut pollution. Finally, you may think that premium gas is used to prevent harmful knocks on your engine but in reality, modern cars have systems in place to correct the knocking and make them go away before you even hear them. All these misconceptions and or false claims might have been the cause of misbelieving false knowledge and even false advertising due oil companies like Exxon that were later perused by the FTC. This just adds to the fact that there is no true benefits or premium gas and it’s not even as environmentally friendly as you
