According to Investopedia (2014), Standardization is a framework of agreements to which all relevant parties in an industry or organization must adhere to ensure that all processes associated with the creation of a good or performance of a service are performed within set guidelines. This is done to ensure the end product has consistent quality, and that any conclusions made are comparable with all other equivalent items in the same class. Heizer 2011, states that a Product-Focused Strategy is when there are high volume, low variety processes. This strategy is said to be a continuous production or line flow production because it occurs for a long period of time. The product-focused strategy has lower variable cost per unit, production planning and control is easier, equipment of higher status is utilized and there is lower but more specialized skills. These both concepts’ main focus is on the products (Pigs). These methods see to it that the mass production of Premium products and this lowers the cost of the products on the market. When mass production is created, pork products will increase and therefore sales and revenues will increase also and this in turn will maximise the company’s profits. They addressed this company as being inhumane by helping to add to the pollution in the environment. People or users of this meat have argued that this farm gives off bad odours and the runoff of animal wastes can cause pollution in the nearby rivers and streams and they can also give off poisonous gases that are harmful to health. Premium Standard Farm is a large farm that produces a lot of pigs also produces a lot of animal wastes and if the wastes are not managed properly, it can be a serious health hazard to the animals and this can pose as a threat to the environment and the consumers who are purchasing the products. When the animals are not taken care of properly, the manure that is decomposing can cause serious health diseases like swine flu. When these pigs are fed or taken care of in a confinement area, it is possible that they are exposed to health issues especially when they are impregnated. It is also possible for their life span to be shortened based on the level of toxins, pesticides and antibiotics that they intake and also due to the fact that this farm pushes the maximum productivity from these animals which results in stress.
