Make the patient feel comfortable. Some of the questions that you will ask them can make the patient feel embarrassed or uncomfortable because the patient doesn 't want for her private life to be known. Depending on the patient I will try to help them understand that what am asking is not to be nosy but to help the doctor better serve them.
My role as a patient advisor with Kaiser Permanente began in 2010 after the birth of my daughter. I was induced and spent 6 days in the hospital and during that time my family and I experienced wide fluctuations in the level of care and communication provided by the various healthcare professionals attending to us. At the end of my stay, I shared my observations and perception of the labor & delivery and postpartum hospital experience with the department administrator and ombudsman. Upon providing my feedback I was impressed with the reception I received. My input was welcomed and embraced.

In retrospect, the goals that were created with Maria may have only further added to the mounting pressure in her life. My need to follow a model based approach, meet three times a week and uphold stakeholder requirement coupled with automatically asserting my professional knowledge (unintentionally) regarding how to approach her circumstances may have diminished Maria’s own meaning of the situation. It is interesting to note that the same way that Maria may have felt overwhelmed or pressured to meet “her goals” is the same way that her own service providers felt pressured to “help” Maria meet her goals. At first Maria was able to accomplish the set goals, she took the children to their psychiatric and physical evaluations, Maria was ensuring that Joel and Ana where attending school, and utilized outside resources such as food pantries, diaper and clothing banks (not to mention the school materials, food, clothing, and diapers that ACS often donated to the

Until 2017, the Foster Care Delivery structure in Ohio was supervised by the state but administered by the county. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) was the single state agency responsible for receiving and allocating all federal grant awards and overseeing the federal and state child welfare programs. ODJFS supervises the 88 county public children service agencies (PCSAs) that deliver the services and benefits to the children in Ohio. Children in the Foster Care system were under a Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) model, meaning doctors and hospitals bill the state each time they provide care to the child. In the FFS system, there is limited accountability to providing the best care for the child and ensuring continuity.

This can include anything from Alcoholics Anonymous to pregnancy support; there are many different types of support networks in communities it is just finding the right one that fits with the problem at hand.
