Obama’s speech challenges relativism in a few different ways. What I took from it is, even though it may be history and past it is not okay for women to go through genital mutilation. He says “they have no place in the 21st century.” In other words, in no way is it okay for that to continue to happen. He also says “just because something is a tradition doesn’t make it right.” Which was one of my favorite parts because it was very bold for President Obama to say. This challenges the thought of all opinions being equally correct or all practices are equally correct.
