Having way too much pride is bad (Medusa) In the myth Medusa, she decides to boast about her beauty. She talks about how beautiful she is to everyone. She also told everyone that they would build a better museum for her than Athena because she was selfish. In the Lightening Thief, a hero Percy Jackson was getting picked on by Clarisse. Clarisse bent him over and pushed his head into the toilet but instead the water sprayed on her. Both stories portray the theme of having way too much pride is bad but appreciating others around you is the better thing to do. A theme found in Medusa is, having way too much pride is bad. For example, in Medusa it says, "And with those words, Medusa 's face changed into that of a monster". "She lived with the other blind monsters". This quotation shows the theme because, Medusa 's pride brought her nothing but misery and snake hair. Another quote is, "Beauty fades swiftly in all mortals, it does not comfort the sick, teach the unskilled or feed the hungry," Said Athena. Athena was explaining to Medusa that her beauty doesn’t do anything useful. So Medusa should 've never boasted about herself. For instance, the book says, "Clarisse sneered, you got a problem with that?... We got an initiation ceremony for newbies Prissy". This quote shows the theme because, Clarisse was being mean to Percy and called him Prissy just like Medusa was calling everyone else ugly. Another quote is, "We 'll pulverize you...who’s this little runt?" Clarisse said. The quote connects to the theme because just like Medusa, Clarisse was rude and didn’t care of other people 's feelings. This shows how The Lightening Thief an Medusa are alike because Medusa was mean to everyone else like Clarisse was mean to
