All Sarah ’s life she was taught that slaves are not equal to whites, but she still fought for them. She stood up to anyone that was against her even her family. "I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain, their role in life simply to prepare food and give birth to children" (Malala, 13). Cultural tradition is evidently a culminating aspect in the formation of societies and a direct consequence on the lifestyle of these families. Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan, a society which privileged man, even though since young she was determined to stand against the tradition and live for herself and for her family. In the first quarter of her autobiography, I Am Malala, she relates stories of her ancestors that demonstrates her inner pride which serves as influence to the building of her character. Pride is indeed a common characteristic that human beings share, which is satisfaction for our own achievements.

There is nothing wrong with pride, but there is something wrong with letting pride destroy relationships. John Proctor, from the Crucible (Arthur Miller), is a character of many words. Whether he be proud, stubborn, foolish, or noble, the decision has been laid out and the calculations completed. In the end, he saves his soul, but his life is lost forever. Pride has lead John to the court, but a change in thought leads him to nobles actions which result in horrible consequences.
Losing Doodle “It's okay to lose your pride over someone you love. Don't lose someone you love over your pride. ”(Unknown) Pride is a powerful thing. It can kill and raise up, it can keep you from admitting your wrong.
By writing it down and sharing it with a large audience, she was able to transmit her stories and the events that happened in those years, as well as her own personal status to create herself an identity and to define her state of
In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller in 1953, Miller illustrates the importance of seeing past pride and listening to other people. The Crucible is about the small town of Salem Massachusetts. The story takes place during the Salem witch trials. It is centered on a few main characters, Reverend Parris, Reverend Hale, Abigail Williams, some other girls in the town, John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, and Judge Danforth. Abigail is a 17-year-old girl who is trying to lie her way back into John Proctor’s heart.
A Brother’s Pride Pride is a feeling of fulfillment, a feeling of satisfaction from one’s achievements. In James Hurst’s short story, The Scarlet Ibis, the theme that pride has the power to blind is prevalent throughout the story. The narrator is the main target of this theme as his overbearing pride leads to the demise of his younger brother. However, the power that pride has over people can bring both a positive and negative outcome.
Pride is not more worthy than an innocent life. Arthur Miller clearly illustrates that some of the characters, such as John Proctor, choose pride over their own lives. I’ve learned throughout the book the lack of limits characters will endure, to make sure their name is clear. I saw how often the “justice” in the book favored what it wanted to hear and thought was the truth. Ironically, the characters had to lie to feed into the “truth” that there are witches in Salem, in order to keep their own lives.
A Raisin in the Sun To be prideful is human nature, even when it hasn't been earned. Being proud of who you are and what you have accomplished is an important part of everyone's life, but sometimes we are prideful without something to be proud of. This kind of pride is shown in the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry through the character Walter Younger. He enters the play with a false sense of pride in being a man, despite the fact that he is a chauffeur who is struggling to support his family.
Down to the penultimate Canto, Dante meets the second pair of sinners bound together: Ugolino and Ruggieri. Ugolino bites the skull of Ruggieri—the vengeance that he badly wanted on earth is given to him for eternity. This image of Ugolino and Ruggieri reminds us of the image of Paulo and Francesca as the only sinners in Hell that are bound together. The juxtaposition of Ugolino and Francesca ultimately demonstrates two facets of love: A fatherly love that was rejected because of pride and a passionate love that was pursued despite its unlawful nature. Pride, considered by some to be the worst of the seven deadly sins, can cause a person to go to extreme measures to save their reputation, this is demonstrated by the actions of Judge Danforth, Reverend Hale and John Proctor, during the Salem witch trials of 1960, in the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Throughout the play Judge Danforth expressed his prideful ways, in a number of situations, even when other people 's lives were on the line. When Hale suggested postponing the trial Danforth roared, “Postponement now speaks a floundering on my part; reprieve or pardon must cast doubt upon the guilt of them that died till now” (Danforth.4.1.129). Danforth knows that postponement would give people more time to confess and save there own life.

The novel "Thing's fall apart" by Chinua Achebe is a complex work that masterfully establishes and develops characters through their experience with cultural collision. The way that Achebe accomplishes carefully weaving his implicit claim throughout the work is such a beautiful subtlety that it deserves to be analyzed. The Igbo's pride is constantly challenged by the colonizers as they gain increasingly more power in Africa. The idea of pride is constantly developed throughout the thoughts and actions of the novels protagonist Okonkwo. His response to the colonizers is influenced by his own views on pride and is used by Achebe to illustrate his own opinion on pride.
