DESCRIPTION:
Prince Edward Island is one of the Atlantic territories on the east shoreline of Canada. It is a very small territory in Canada. The island is in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Northumberland Strait isolates PEI from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Charlottetown is the capital city of PEI. The Island was named "Prince Edward" Island in 1799 to pay tribute to the father of Queen Victoria. It is called "the Garden Province" since half of the area is full of cultivation.

THE PEOPLE:
The recent census confirms that the population of Prince Edward island is estimated to be 140,204. Over 75 percent of the population are of Scottish, Irish and English. About 15 % are of French natives. Charlottetown is the biggest city with an expected populace of 62,477 in the Greater Charlottetown Area. Summerside is the only other city. There are seven consolidated towns.
CLIMATE:

About thirty percent of Canada 's potatoes are cultivated in PEI. Other products include various fruits and vegetables (apples, strawberries, blueberries, carrots, onions, tomatoes) and grain crops. Almost 50% of the area is utilized for cultivating. Food handling is a vital industry (packaging, canning, freezing). The second biggest and most popular industry is tourism whereas fishing is the third biggest industry. Fishermen find herring, fish, cod, and mackerel. Different traps are used for catching lobsters. Clams, scallops, mussels and shellfish are cultivated. Oysters are also famous for harvesting in the island.
