History shows man has endured and overcome many diseases and illnesses. These diseases killed many people and caused many to suffer. Most of these diseases have been cured do to men’s medical research. Medical research has improved people’s lives along with increased life expectancy greatly. These medical breakthroughs have helped mankind in many ways, but in order to achieve these advances in medicine many animals suffered through testing. These tests done to animals have improved the lives of many humans who would have suffered greatly. The testing of laboratory animals is an acceptable form of medical research. Today laboratory animal testing has come a long way but the animals are animals treated cruelly in testing, that is why the welfare …show more content…

The practice of using animals for biomedical research is severely being criticized from Animal protection and animals rights group. For example, drug fiascos have occurred, such as the diethylene glycol (DEG) use in 1937. This substance was poisonous for humans, but was still used in flavors of taste. And this ended up with more than one hundred people in death. After this incident, a law was passed that the drugs were only to be used on animals first to be marketed! Since, they have had this opportunity, they started adding genes to the animals like rats, mice, and birds. It comes in research that about 90% of drug trials fail. Treatments often seem promising when tested in animals, encouraging pharmaceutical companies to start clinical trials that test safety and efficacy in human patients. But the majority of the time, the investment doesn’t pay off. Some are pointing their fingers at animal models, saying they don’t accurately represent the human disorder they are designed to mimic. Moreover, their response to treatments doesn’t predict a human’s response and experiments using them often paint an overly optimistic picture. This clearly proves that animal use is harmful and why many believe it is useless in some …show more content…

We humans think we are more superior over other species, but from the viewpoint of an insect, they believe that they are more superior. So that’s why humans believe that it’s ok to test animals whenever they feel like without their consent. They should have the right to have consented because they are living species just like us, but just not the same type. The scientists honestly have no sympathy of taking away a life of a living organism. These reasons have brought the animal rights group’s attention to criticism. The scientists and doctors treat the living beings with such disrespect, ignorance, and cruelty. They treat it as if it is a test object, but not a living being. Also, animal use cannot always be reliable and accurate. For example, many drugs that appear safe and effective in animals fail in humans, or cause significant harm and sometimes even death. A 2004 study from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that 92 percent of drugs entering clinical trials following animal testing fail to be approved. Of those approved, half are withdrawn or relabeled due to severe or lethal adverse effects not detected during animal tests. Animal use has been proved loyal in some cases, while dangerous and suspicious of
