The death penalty is a very touchy and very hard subject to talk about but in this paper I will discuss several topics. They consist of costs, alternatives, innocent vs. guilty offenders and the effectiveness. The topic of costs is very touchy and are very pushing on the taxes of citizens. The costs of living incarcerated is very high and is like a death sentence for us as tax payers. After research I found out that it would cost over 2 million dollars to keep an inmate incarcerated for 60 years. The bad part of this is that the $ 2,403,040 is only for one inmate to be incarcerated in a 3 x 10 cell. So do the math, if you have 100 inmates incarcerated for over 60 years’ times (X) the 2 million by 100.
That is a lot of money coming out of the pocket of hard working citizens. Now let’s take a minute and be honest, why in the world would be pamper these inmates and pay for their stay if they committed a horrible crime. I work for a living and can’t take so many days off or I will be behind on my bills and or rent. Let alone there living an “OK” life in prison paid for. Now when they get out of …show more content…

In my eyes I should not be paying these horrific amounts of MY money to help this animal live his last days in jail. Although 31 states do have the death penalty as of right now we barely see people actually being put to death. In Pennsylvania we haven’t seen an execution in a while. Now let’s take our good old state Texas and say a child would get raped and or beaten to death you can surly believe there being put to death. The United States statistics show that Texas has put to death 474 people since of 1976. That statistic is from 1976-2011. Death row and executions are on the rise in Texas as of 2016-2017. Now Pennsylvania has only executed 3 inmates from 1976-2011. That number is one of the lowest out of all 50 states. Wyoming has only whopping 1 inmate to put to death in
