The one thing that almost all puppies have in common is that they love to chase; both you and their toys. We are going to use this fact to our advantage. As long as you have a long leash and a toy small enough for your puppy to pick up, you can do this fairly easily.
The first step in the getting your puppy to retrieve is to make him interested in the toy he is going to fetch. First put his long leash on and command him into the sitting position. Once your puppy is sitting, hold him back with one arm over his chest and wave the toy in front of his face. Continue to shake and wave the toy in front of your puppy's face until he is struggling to escape your one arm and get the toy.
At the point where your puppy wants the toy this bad, throw it a short distance from where you are and release the beast. When your puppy stands up to chase the toy, get up with him and trail behind a few feet. When your puppy grabs the toy, give the leash a slight pull (Just enough to let him know to follow you) and run away back to where you started. He should chase/ follow you back. Note: This part will only work if you are high energy and upbeat the whole
