Both myths make statements and references that allow the reader to infer and characterize both Procrustes and Proteus. In the myth about Procrustes, this mythological character is described as a ruthless figure. He is illustrated as a Greek legend who forces his ‘victims’ to fit in the “bed of Procrustes”. He will go to the extent of stretching his shorter victims and cutting off the limbs of his taller victims, and in the process costing them their lives. Ultimately, Procrustes ends up slain by his own method, which is described as forcing his victims “to fit into an unnatural scheme or pattern,” by a distant God named Theseus. In the myth about Proteus, this mythological character is described as a “prophetic old man of the sea and shepherd
