The Profession of Arms In life, the goal of many is to have a career in something we love. The unfortunate truth is not everyone finds that and instead works day to day for a paycheck. To be a professional means to be an expert in your field, to produce high quality work, to love what you do and produce extremely effective results. Professionals are sought by consumers, spectators, clients and more. The people will lean toward seeking the talents of a professional because the professional takes pride in what they do. Today’s leaders have the continuous challenge of maintaining their level of professionalism as well as adapting to the constant evolution of the battlefield, whether that is OCONUS or at home on American soil. Looking to the future and tailoring the training for themselves and their Soldiers is necessary if accomplishing the mission is the desired outcome. Effective leadership as well as achieving an expert level of their profession boosts credibility as well as morale within the ranks of their Soldiers. Tactics that had worked for leaders three years ago in one combat zone might not work for others in another part of the world during the same time period. It definitely wouldn’t work in a combat zone today. Our Army has maintained a high level of success based on its ability to adapt to change. A big reason for that is that leaders have taken it upon themselves to maintain the high level of professionalism by paying close attention to lessons learned from previous conflicts. Allowing Soldiers of all levels to give their input on past experiences and any suggestions gives a feeling of belonging and creates a high level of
