Profiling and Ethical Reasoning Profiling has been accepted as an effective method in determining conviction or innocence, formulating a sense of safety and self-assurance or a probable determinate of danger. Likely hoods are preconceived through various mediums and have a detrimental effect on society’s morals. Goals set in college universities should be to diminish these ideas shown and distributed throughout numerous outlets. We should be reevaluating situations to the point where they no longer exist, and eventually institutions no longer will have to deal with profiling in such an indiscreet and perpetuating fashion. In this speech, Socrates spoke of how wisdom was only apparent in the ones who knew what they didn’t know and didn’t wish to say they knew (Plato 62). His questioning of those who thought themselves to be wise exposed their ignorance. This lead to a healthy following by the young and hatred among those humiliated, resulting in his demise (Plato 63). Overall, in relation to profiling and ethics, Socrates had made such a great example of what justice should look and how people should assume knowledge. The story of cavemen trapped with the inability to find that supreme knowing no better demonstrates the cast that inhibits society. Eventually one is freed from this ignorance, and enlightens the rest who, Plato suggests, would be fearful of this atypical understanding until they themselves can make sense of it and can be contributors to society (52). Plato explains that the power of reasoning is innate and present within all of us but needs guidance and proper direction (52). By applying what we know from Plato to our current issue, we can understand that all of us possess this reasoning that can be directed towards righteousness. Therefore, it is possible and, undoubtedly, requires a great deal of effort in order to instate humane treatment of one another. Both of these philosophers are explicitly detailing the same thing.
