A Parisian or Viennese citizen in 1800 would have a difficulty recognizing his or her city in 1900 for several factors. The population growth during the time period was growing at an exponential rate. The streets, housing, sewer system, and working conditions were simply getting repulsive. The expansion of the population was growing at a higher rate than the city could grow upward or outward. At this time, there were no amenities such as the parks, clean sewer, and expansive boulevards that would come later.

The Urban Revolution I believe to be a revolution not just a spark in history because of the amazing advancements that were made in the span of time. Comparing Urban Revolution to the Industrial Revolution both were major in our history wherein the Urban Revolution humans were becoming better at self-providing for an increasing population while the Industrial Revolution was about becoming better at using machinery to do the jobs for us through machinery. In the book, it says “Gordon Childe considered technology and the development of craft specialization in the hands of full-time artisans a cornerstone of the Urban Revolution” (Fagin, pg. 212). Large food surpluses, diversified farming economies, and irrigation agriculture are just but three
During the 20th century There were various social and profitable changes that the American society had underwent. These changes included modifications in technology and science, government roles, gender roles, health and wellbeing, and the conceptions of freedom. Then after their viewpoints were varied, their goals were to humanize and regulate big business, not to harm it. The attitudes of the reformers and political activists then turned to progressive works.
Colonial life is rapidly changing and with it so are cities. Transforming into cities that make early efforts in creating a model for future colonial cities. By this I mean, a city with hospitals, police department, public libraries, fire-stations, and paved and lit streets. These features are products of a rise in urbanization and are an answer to the problems a new urban city faces. In this era a particular city with a pivotal citizen would stand out among the rest and provide some key solutions to urban problems.
FREDERICK LAW OLMSTED AND CAMILLO SITTE: NOT AS DIFFERENT AS THEY FIRST APPEAR Harkening from different sides of the Atlantic, two influential urban planners worked to transform the blossoming urban environment of the nineteenth century, albeit with very different approaches. This essay will be looking at the ideals and some of the work of Frederick Law Olmsted and Camillo Sitte. Born within just over twenty years of one and other, Olmsted in Hartford, Connecticut, and Sitte in Vienna, both men had careers encompassing fields well beyond urban planning. Not a planner by training, Olmsted delved into the world of planning when he and Calvert Vaux won the design competition for New York’s Central Park in 1858.
The Garden City One idea in rban design which was developed in nineteenth century ,which has survived until today,is the importance of green spaces in the cities. Ebenzer Howard was disturbed by the haphazard growth and the unhealthy conditions of the cities,he proposed an idea in his book entitled Tomorrow ,published in 1898 and the idea was of garden city.
