The progressives were a group of well-educated people who were concerned about the poor working environments of others and wanted to protect consumers and other problems that existed in the 1900’s. In 1911, workers had died in the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, some jumped to their deaths while others were burned. Work safety was an important issue for the progressives. Progressives wanted to end corruption and make the government more attentive to the people’s needs. They offered an array of proposals because the society was in need of redistribution of social goods. During the Gilded Age, the United States had an immense growth on economic, political and social growth. New products and technologies that were improving middle class quality life. But the Gilded Age politicians brought a lot of corruption, the politics were dominated by machines and organizations who were influencing people to get more votes in favor of politicians. There were many forms of corruption like political machines which were organizations that were designed to keep certain political parties When scandals broke out, the government’s reputation was tarnished. Political machines were exchanging support for votes, for example, jobs, homes and giving out government contracts. It was easy for political machines to receive supports from poor immigrants because political machines were distributed in the areas where people could be more easily influenced.
