Homelessness is a problem that impacts many people in the Kansas City area and affects people of all ages. There are people in Kansas City living great lives, however, there are many living on the streets as well. Some people living on the streets consider their camps to be a community but these communities are being taken down. There are shelters around Kansas City for the homeless but not nearly enough. Homelessness affects nearly 1,733 people in Kansas City and people around Kansas City should help work on building more shelters around the city. The number of people who are homeless has been on the rise since 2007. According to an article by NPR Kansas City, “Since 2007, there’s been a 16% increase in total homeless population in Kansas and a 4% increase in Missouri” …show more content…

According to the article, “Since 2014, Project Homeless Connect Kansas City has helped more than 300 homeless participants annually with the help of hundreds of community volunteers, service providers and agencies and gracious donors" (Project Homelessness). They are helping hundreds of homeless people by providing them with food, vision care, medical care, housing assistance and employment assistance. There are also many smaller ways to help the homeless such as volunteering at homeless shelters or helping out with homeless projects like Project Homelessness.
Homelessness impacts a growing number of people of all ages in Kansas City and some are having trouble finding anywhere to go. Every day, more people are sleeping on benches and in tents. Their tents are a source of a community but with them getting taken down, these communities may not exist for much longer. A way to help is simply volunteering or donating to homeless projects. It may not be that much but if this can help with expanding shelters and more homeless people could have somewhere to
