Project Report Pertains To The Delphi Double Homicide

This project report pertains to the Delphi Double Homicide Investigation. The homicides of a 13 year old white female and a 14 year old white female. Both were found dead in a wooded area near the Monon High Bridge trails in Delphi, Indiana. The investigation revealed that the 13 year old female had died from one sharp force trauma to the neck. The 14 year old female died from four sharp force traumas to the neck. A multi-agency investigation was conducted by the Indiana State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Delphi City Police Department, and multiple other state, local and federal agencies. The girls had made arrangements for Derek German, Liberty’s father, to pick up the girls at 1500 HRS.
At approximately 1400 HRS a female witness walking on the trail near the bridge observed a man matching the photo that was released to the media of the suspect standing on a platform on the side of the bridge. The female turned around to walk back from the bridge and observed two teenage females walking towards the bridge. The two females were later identified as the victims.
At approximately 1407 HRS Liberty takes a picture of Abigail and places it on Snapchat
At approximately 1413 HRS Liberty takes a video of Abby on her cell phone. The video is at the end of the bridge and contains a brief frame of the suspect walking behind the girls. The audio captures both girls talking to each other. The suspect is heard saying “Hey Girls” “Down the Hill”. The video ends shortly after

Derek arrives at the trail head at approximately 1513 Hrs. When he arrives he walks down the trail a little ways but did not see the girls so he went back to the trail head and call his family to come and help him locate the girls. At approximately 1610 HRS other family members search the trail all the way to the bridge and yell out for the girls. However, they were unable to locate them.
At approximately 1557 HRS a witness sees a man walking west between the cemetery and the Mears residence, which is near the trail head and where the girls bodies were located later the next day. The man matches the description of the photo released and was muddy had had blood on him. *This information was not obtained until 3 months into the investigation.

At approximately 1730 the Sheriff’s Office is notified about the girls missing by both families and a report is taken. A search party is organized and they begin to search for the girls.
