Second thing about Prometheus is — he betrayed his people (Titans) by helping Zeus during the war ( Olympians VS. Titans). In the first few sentences, I wrote the Prometheus stole fire form Zeus right? Why? It’s because he loves his creations.
In the poem called Works and Days, written by an ancient Greek poet Hesiod, a god named Prometheus gives mankind the gift of fire without the consent of Zeus. This infuriates Zeus, which results him to punish Prometheus by inflicting him with eternal pain. Not only did Zeus punish Prometheus, but he also penalized mankind. In Hesiod's poem, it mentions, "The price for the stolen fire will be a gift of evil to charm the hearts of all men as they hug their own doom" (45).
All their inflictions come from us, we hear. And what of their own failings? Greed and folly double the suffering in the lot of them.” Zeus’
Prometheus is one of he most enduring figures in greek mythology, he is the one and only titan who sided with Zeus against Zeus 's father Cronus, Cronus over threw his father Ouranos by defeating him and became the new ruler of the titans, and he ends up eating all of his children and and his wife Rhea could only save one and that one was Zeus, which he defeated and forced him to throw up all his siblings out and him and his siblings defeat the titans for control of the universe. Oedipus Tyrannos by Sophocles relates closest to my own beliefs because I too believe that all humans are flawed. Sophocles displays both sides of humans, both good and bad human characteristics. The first event that shows Oedipus is a good human is when he defeats the Sphinx. Oedipus becomes flawed when he realizes that the topic “Who am I” becomes more important than the investigation of “Who killed Laius?”. The combination of Oedipus Tyrannos and Prometheus Bound using prophecies, relates to what I consider is known as karma.
Through Homer's depictions of temptation and their consequences, we can conclude Greeks constantly struggled with temptations. Homer thought how one deals with temptation determines character and the consequences that follow. If one did not give in, rewards followed, but if they did, punishment ensued. The Greeks were similar to us in their desires, but exceedingly lusted after beautiful women and reigning power. The Gods proposed heinous things to those that submitted.
Orpheus and Eurydice is a story of Greek mythology about a demigod named Orpheus, who created incredible music from his lyre. He met a wood nymph named Eurydice who agreed to be his wife. Less than an hour after their marriage became official, Eurydice was bitten and killed by a viper. The now-bereft Orpheus traveled to the Underworld, the land where the dead go. With nothing but his lyre and his songs, he found a crack in a dark cave that would take him to the Underworld, to retrieve the soul of Eurydice.
The quote “To be free, a man must be free of his brothers.” to me means that one can’t truly reach their full potential if they let everyone else dictate what to do and how to do it. One truly can discover this once they’re alone with their self. All of his life Prometheus had felt different from his brothers, like he was an outcast. Once he was finally free of the “love” of his brothers he finally realises that they have been brainwashed all of their life to love their brothers so much that they cannot reach their full potential.
Greek mythology can be viewed as a mirror to the ancient Greek civilization. Ancient Greek myths and legends often reflected how the Greeks saw themselves. Myths were used by Greeks to make justifications of every existing aspect of earth as well as their own society. In myths, Greek gods & heroes often represented key aspects of the human civilization. From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.
In the epic poem The Odyssey, Homer portrays Greek gods and goddesses as possessing human qualities and faults. Through their actions and emotions, Homer emphasizes the detrimental effects of lust, envy, wrath, and greed in ancient Grecian society. He also never fails to remind readers of the importance of respect for holy figures because of their powerful abilities to create chaos and wonder". Homer wants to prove that gods and humans share a variety of traits, and the only difference is that god don’t allow these flaws negatively to impact their society. To help further his argument, we can compare Greek gods and goddesses to that of Christianity.

I think that it shows the Greeks believe that pridefulness is wrong/punishable as well. Along with pride, I think that there were themes of piety, lies and deciet, and justice so I believe that the Greeks may have seen the Gods as a way to enforce good behavior/a moral code of good, although they show to be ignorant, act "bratty", and can be decietful which may be believed to cause humans to be bad. In this essay I would like to explain why I believe that The Apology by Plato should be classified as pity and fear, in regards to Greek tragedy. I believe that this is true because I can personally empathize with Socrates; this will be discussed later on in this essay.
