1984 is a novel which explores the life of a man living in a totalitarian society run by the Party (Big Brother). The Party is in control of every aspect of one’s life and it uses many devices to supervise and manipulate the citizens of Oceania. A big part of said devices is made up of technology. It is used to control people’s freedom to think and exist through use of propaganda, surveillance over the citizens, and to spread false information to control. Propaganda in 1984 was mostly deployed through technology in order to make the citizens obedient and to ascertain Big Brother’s control.
Written Task 2 In today’s society we see all types of different propaganda to sway our opinions one way or the other. We have television, magazines, radios, billboards, and so much more that can be used as propaganda. Propaganda today on the internet can be derogatory while back in 1984 they didn’t use curse words, but instead they tried to make their leader seem as though they were this great person even if they were not.
In conclusion, in the book and film, both supreme leaders use surveillance and propaganda to hide the truth from the citizens in Washington and Oceania brainwash their society. In both scenarios, propaganda was used to influence the society that their country/state is becoming better every day. Moreover, in the film, constant surveillance such as eye scanners and cameras, these high pieces of technology used to help and allow Pre-crime to monitor, control all the citizens and track the exact location of an individual caused great pain and suffrage in the Minority report. Fear and ignorance is one of the most power concepts that is represented in the book 1984. The government known as Big Brother constantly watches everyone and controls their every thought. They have the ability to put the fear of extinction into their citizens so that no one dares to act again them. But their overall advantage over its citizens is that they keep telling them that they are always at war with either Eurasia or Eastasia. The Party uses peoples ignorance and enthusiasm for war because they are always angry towards their enemies when things don’t go their way, the follow the concept that war is peace, and that the people of Oceania need war to stay in line.
The Commonwealth Government implemented many wartime strategies, controlling the daily life of Australian citizens throughout WW2. Rationing the distribution of resources encouraged a resourceful spirit amongst the Australian public, whilst limiting everyday essentials. The use of propaganda became a more intrusive control by the Commonwealth government, as they interfered with beliefs as well as actions, regarding enlistment, the war effort and opinions towards enemy soldiers. The heavy censorship of information during WW2, had a significant impact on the Australian understanding of war as apposed to the horrifying realities, censorship also worked to protect military information from enemy interception, however at a strong cost to the freedom

One variable that echoed throughout America was propaganda. Propaganda was a major influence in the rally for overall support in America during World War II. The propaganda’s intentions in World War II can be broken down into three major categories: war efforts, Anti-German and Anti-Japanese backing, and homefront endeavors.
Propaganda’s were popular during 1941-1945 because it helped unified the public behind the effort of the war to make other people help. Soon women began to help build war materials and resources that could help win the war or help rebuild after the war. There was never victory for the Axis because of all the support from men, “Women power” and children. A lot of posters that were put up helped encourage the americans and gave them spirit. This figurehead exercises his powers of governing every aspect of the people 's lives by observing and manipulating the populace. Big Brother also divides his subjects into classes as a means to keep the populace oppressed. Throughout this literary narrative the main character, Winston Smith, struggles to survive in this society as he struggles to fit the conventional mold that is preached.

In Airstrip One a high entity known as Big Brother along with a group called The Party control the citizens of Airstrip one. Big Brother and The Party are the government of Airstrip One and they control the citizens of Airstrip One by controlling two things, the media what gets said written and broadcasted on any source of media and they control the people 's perception of reality. " 1984" tells us that Big Brother and The Party are able to control what the people perceive as real by controlling the minds of the people as said by a character in "1984", the character says "we control matter because we control the mind"(O 'brien page 264).
