Muhammad died in 632 A.D. His death created a huge conflict within the religion. For one, Muhammad had never claimed to be divine. He had claimed to be the messenger of Allah; a prophet. The final prophet of Allah. Another thing was that Muhammad’s son-in-law/cousin, Ali, became his immediate successor. This caused the most conflict because the Muslims believed in electing the next successor, but Muhammad wanted the successor to follow his bloodline. Ali had reunified Islam. After the death of the third Caliph, Hussein, Ali’s son, became the next successor. He was eventually assassinated. This caused two groups to from from Islam: the Shi’a and the Sunni.
