The topic of capital punishment is widely talked about by US citizens, there are many opposing opinions and arguments toward weather or not it should be abolished. This is an important topic for people to be discussing because citizens should not be getting wrongfully killed by the government. The positives to abolishing the death penalty heavily out weight the negatives. Murder is the first leading cause of death in women and the third leading cause of death in men, behind vehicle accidents and falls by construction workers. By keeping the death penalty, it is keeping all the power in the governments hands. United Nations has publicly said that the death penalty needs to be abolished across the world. United nation's main job is to keep international peace and security, therefore if they are saying that capital punishments needs to stop there's definitely and important reason as to why. Most people debate that the death penalty is inhuman and torturous punishment. Data from the death penalty information center shows that 3.15% of death row executions are botched, that causing suffering to inmates. In court they came to the conclusion that the death penalty is in violation of the 8th amendment but no one was able to agree as to how it violated it. The 8th amendment in simple terms is there to safeguard Americans against excessive punishment. The death penalty creates too much of a risk that the state is killing innocent Americans.
