(1) What are some arguments in favor of affirmative action? An affirmation action is a policy that goes beyond what the law establishes. As the author David J. Walsh indicated, "affirmation action has been defined as those actions appropriate to overcome the effects of past or present practices, policies, or other barries to equal employment opportunity". (p.237) Because of the numerous incidents of employment discriminations, the companies are forced to keep a balance of the diversity of its employees. The positive side of this policy, without doubt, is that it reinforces the equal employment opportunity. If this policy is established for the right reason, and with an understanding, it could be an important step towards the company's success. In many studies, it has been shown that the correct selection of the employees with diversity and different cultures give an advantage to the business. We live in a multiracial society, therefore, having a team of employees working together and sharing their knowledge with different experiences and cultures helps with the understanding of the market and the customer. When that is the reason, the hiring process can be executed for the wrong reasons and can be unfair to other candidates. When companies are found guilty of practicing employment discrimination, the court order gives them a time frame to accommodate the policy and, in the process, the human resource manager can hire candidates without the right qualifications for the job. This can be counterproductive to the companies and may cause reverse discrimination, therefore discomfort among employees, not because of the race, sex, or ethnic origin, but because another co-worker can feel excluded in the process of a promotion while having more experience and
