The company was formed with the holding of the Electric Company of America, which was organized in 1899 and the company gets their first utility properties in 2 Jan 1907. These first stations provided services like electric power, gas, water, steam, and ice to the citizens of New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. The name of the company changed and renamed as American electric power in 1958 and merged with the Central and Southwest Corporation in 2000. In 1911 the company first interconnected power system start and connected the company two plants in Marion and Muncie from the 33,000-volt cable networks across the some farmland areas of Indiana. In 1917 the company expands their power plants started Super power plant also known as Windsor plant in Ohio and West Virginia. From 1922-1940 the demand of electricity was very high its great time for the company to expand their business and new plants are established in different states. Each new plant represented a major advancement in power generation. To illustrate, one of the company plant in Philo was the first plant in the world to reheat the steam to do double duty in the process of generating electricity. From 1941-1961 after the world war II, the demand of electricity rise and there was a lot of upgrading technology used by engineers. The main criticism of AEP is most of electricity produce by using coal rather than other sources. According to company corporate accountability report in 2006 and 2007 coal accounted for 85% of AEP energy source and it jumped to 86% in2008. Carbon dioxide emission in the environment by the AEP from 2005-2014 which shows that in 2005 145.1 million metric tons was emitted by AEP and due to the efforts of company it declined to 129.7 million metric tons in 2009. In 2011 the company was the highest emitted carbon dioxide in U.S with 135.6 million metric tones. After some decline it again hike to 122.7 million metric tons in 2014. The same thing happened in the emission of the Sulfur dioxide and Nitrogen dioxide by AEP. From 2005-2014 the Sulfur dioxide around 900,000 tons was emitted and it continues to decline. In 2013 it dropped to 270,000 tons and climbed to 318,000 tons in 2014. The same thing happened with the emission of Nitrogen dioxide in 2005 it was 275,000 tons and after decrease and it grew to 108,000 tons.
