A Necessary but Cruel Process Last Christmas Eve, I was really sad after I saw my neighbor pouring boiling water on a pig before killing it. I couldn’t stand to see an animal suffer and more if a human was causing the pain. As explained in the article “About Animal Testing” by Humane Society International, “All procedures, even those classified as “mild”, have the potential to cause the animals physical as well as psychological distress and suffering”. In the article “About Animal Testing” by Humane Society International, animal testing is “[The] procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products”. Animals are exposed to a large variety of chemicals. They are sometimes mutilated physically and genetically. They go through different surgeries after a product is tested on them to find new cures and improve the way the product works. Millions of animals are used in laboratories for those process. Animals are used in testing instead of humans because they are very similar to humans. In fact, as stated in the article “Should Animals Be Used For Scientific or Commercial Testing?” by Pros and Cons Organization, “Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans, and mice are 98% genetically similar to humans”. Through the process animals go through a large amount of pain that may cause them even the death. Most animals that don’t die from one experiment are re-used in another experiment causing them more
