In my opinion, Robert Laidlaw presented a more logical argument in his article “Zoos: Myth and Reality”. To start off with, I think animals are not getting the proper care they need to help them survive. According to Laidlaw, he states, “But most zoos fail to live up to their own propaganda and vast numbers of zoo animals continue to endure the lives of misery and deprivation.” Second of all, I think animals are suffering from captivity. In the text it says, “But there is one issue in which there seems to be widespread agreement-- at least in principle.
Zoos treat animals poorly, care more about profit, and rob them from having normal lives. First, zoos treat their animals very poorly and are cruel to them. For example, an article from ABC News.go talks about a sloth bear at the Toledo Zoo that died of dehydration because zoo officials thought she was pregnant. They denied food and water for weeks. The zoo animals have to live in tiny, filthy, and barren enclosures.
In my opinion, certain zoo animals should be allowed to live in the wild because the wildlife is their home. The animals don’t belong in a prison cell held captive for the enjoyment of humans. However, there are animals that would not fit well in the wild. This group includes dangerous animals such as lions, tigers, bears, etc. These animals are a threat to the human race.
The Importance of Sacrifice Cherie Dimaline's novel The Marrow Thieves exemplifies sacrifice and how the characters put others ahead of themselves. The Marrow Thieves is a survival story about a group of Indigenous people who are being hunted by the Canadian government for their bone marrow. Their bone marrow is useful because it grants people the ability to dream. Throughout the story, sacrifices were made amongst the group. Frenchie makes a sacrifice by testing a potentially electrified fence.
Secondly, I’ll write about why we shouldn’t keep animals in captivity. Just as everybody wants to be free, animals want to be free, too. And if nobody kills them, they can easily continue their life. In nature, animals have
“The animals of this world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites” - Alice Walker. Some of the animals that you see in zoos are not always born in captivity. They can be taken right out of the wild as well. Although zoos are fun to visit, animals should not be held in captivity because the breed can become overpopulated, they do not know how to survive on their own, and they are being abused.
This is exactly how animals held captive in zoos and sea-parks feel. Zoos generally hold a variety of animals for public display, also known as “zoological parks.” On the other hand, sea-parks, hold fish and amphibians. These parks that exhibit animals are inhumane and barbaric. Vulnerable creatures are being abused daily and few seem to care about this issue.
I say this because some animals in zoos and aquariums are being treated poorly and are not living in a good environment. For example animals held in captivity are not getting fed properly by staff or are being abused mentally and physically. Sometimes the animals would get things thrown into their enclosure. Some people may argue and say that animals in captivity are safer than animals in the wild. But that is incorrect because some animals in captivity get treated poorly by guests, workers, and sometimes other animals in the enclosure.
There is no sign of abuse to zoo animals. Zoos should be left open. Zoos can help endangered species population grow. There has been many problems with animals going extinct to were many places put laws down to help the animals recover. These laws still don't help because some people don't listen.
These animals are subjected to loud sounds and unclean environments as well. They don’t deserve to be treated this inhumanely and unjustly. It isn’t civilized to do this. Zoos are prison-like and serve as a cage for animals, which is why they should not exist. Zoos should not exist today because they do
“Forty years ago 3,000 zebras roamed the 1,456 square miles of Grongosa park in Africa. After 15 years of civil war there are 10 zebras left. ”(Jones 1) Animal welfare is a topic that has been debated recently, should we use animals for entertainment like zoos. Zoos, Aquariums, and horse carriages have come into controversy for animal abuse although some people say that it creates an emotional bond. There is information from both sides and should not use them for entertainment that is at least like we are now.
Zoos have always been something that families love and kids look forward to going to. Kids learn about the animals and the habitats and enjoy the entertainment. It is a great experience for people, but not for the animals. Zoos are downright cruel to Animals. Animals our forced to live in an unreal stressful, and boring conditions.
This terrible abuse happens often in these smaller zoos. The handlers aren’t actually educated in the way they should with how to treat them. People aren’t doing anything about it because they decide they just want to go and have fun watching them and then leave with no after thought. Do these creatures deserve this kind of manhandling and suffering in their life with no consequences for the humans that commit this crime? This kind of abuse also happens in the way that they don’t get treatment with their health, whether it’ a wound, infection or if they are underweight.
To start, Zoos make animals in confinement hurt each other. According to Spanishzoos.org animals hurt each other. when they are in confinement together. This is bad because if the animals hurt each other they could kill each other or severely injure each other. animals even get ill because of zoos.(Spanishzoos.org).
This leads to many concerns from the public on the physical and mental impacts of captivity on the wild animals. This essay examines the advantages and disadvantages of zoos to lead us to a possible conclusion whether it is ethical to place animals in captivity. We will also examine if zoos have the best possible facilities to keep animals in captivity. Body One of the advantages of having zoos, is to provide protection to some animals that are endangered.
