Imagine that you are a land owner in the late 1700’s and the king has just put out a new taxes and they are more than you can afford to pay. Would you just try and pay it or would you stand up for yourself and fight for your rights? When it comes to being an American the revolutionist definitely had the right idea of what it took to be an American. According to the literature studied, the revolutionists had the strongest argument for what is meant to be an American because they fought for what they believed in and they wanted to be free from the king. The revolutionists fought for what they believe in and they we not going to back down until they got what they thought was right. They believed that taxes should not be so high so they took a stand and fought to get them lowered.”For imposing taxes on us without our consent”(Jefferson 171). However if you were a land owner and you were being taxed are you just going to pray to God and say he will make the taxes go down or make you get more money? No, the king is the king and he is not going to change the taxes because of prayers. Praying has nothing to do with taxes and it has nothing to do with the king. The revolutionists were more American for what they did by standing up for themselves and taking action when they need to not just pray to God that taxes go down or something else happens.
