Families that began with a teen pregnancy now cost the government more than $25 billion dollars a year in food stamps, Medicaid, and welfare payments. Birth control can help these issues, but should teenagers have access to birth control, or not? When teens stay in school they can go through college and get a career. Pregnant teens are also more likely to live off of welfare. Having a child when you are young and not ready can make getting an education and getting a good job much more difficult. A poor women is five times more likely to get pregnant because they do not have the money to buy birth control. Teens that don’t get pregnant will allow themselves to have economic security and have a more stable environment to live in. Having a child early in life can diminish teens’ chances of success.
