Hello Sloan, I agree that as care providers, we must be sensitive to our patients. In this case in particular, we must ensure that we are sincere when speaking to the patient. Being that the patient is lesbian, and got pregnant in an untraditional matter, she may be more sensitive and anxious of her pregnancy. Being a lesbian in this society, potentially, puts the patient at risk for discrimination and, according to Lambert and de Man, may potentially cause her to have restricted access to healthcare, health insurance, and knowledge of her health risks (2007). Often times, care providers unknowingly come off as very condescending and arrogant to their patients. If this happens, the patient could feel threatened, standoffish, uncomfortable,
