Thinking about college in high school can spark anxiety. There are many choices. You could decide to go to a community college or a private one, either way there are several factors to consider.
There are pros and cons to private and community colleges. Before you head to college, you want to know what you're getting yourself into. Research the colleges you have in mind beforehand. If you have a busy schedule, certain colleges will be able to work with you, more than private colleges would. Community colleges don't always give you the same opportunities that private colleges do. While a private college may sound more prestigious, it's not as inexpensive as a community college. They have 70 undergraduate majors, and at the College of Art and Science at Vanderbilt they have over 100 majors and minors. They offer over 500 student organizations which allows any student to feel like they're finally at home. Vanderbilt has a wide variety of programs but they also have places of study for the students.
Switching majors is easier with a community college because of the lower costs. Community colleges make it much easier to transfer credits than a private college. If you go to Vanderbilt then it would be a lengthy process to transfer credits.
Dorms are very different at community colleges because they don't always have dorms so the students will have to live nearby and commute to and from college and if you were trying to get a bachelor's degree then it would create difficulty due to the fact that you'd only be getting your basic education in at a community college. If you didn't like living away from home then this would be difficult because you'd be required to live on campus.All dorms have the basic accommodations, there are multiple buildings that you can be put into, sometimes with two beds per dorm or three. With dorms being mandated, you will have to stay on site but it welcomes making friends and getting to know your peers. There are plenty of quiet study rooms for each major or study. They have many floors and accessible rooms for everyone, you can also get a key if asked for.
