Should the confederate monument be removed from public property? Do you agree or disagree? This has been an ongoing debate for years. Many people have different reasons on why they agree or disagree with this topic. With the recent activity in Charlottesville, Virginia this debate is at full storm. I personally agree that the confederate monuments should be removed. Before I give you details on why I agree, I want to give you a little information about the confederate monument. Confederate monuments are statues of confederate leaders or soldiers that fought in the civil war. The monuments provoke violence between people. Nine black churchgoers were killed in a racially-motivated massacre in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015. This shouldn’t be happening and confederates should not be respected, because they would think doing this and much more is acceptable. Many outbreaks of physical violence among white supremacist have gone out of control! There is nothing noble of confederates at all, we shouldn’t dwell over past, but embrace who we are now. “The Confederate flag lionizes both racists and class traitors — indeed the two are inseparable.”- Tyler Zimmer. Racist and class traitors are going about with high self esteem, there is no reverence for them, and we should not encourage anyone of a mindset like that. Today students learn that we should be proud of who we are, and no matter what our skin tone is, we should go after our dreams. What are we teaching children now, if we cannot get over confederacy, and move forward? Slavery was abolished over 100 years ago, these monuments is just a portrayal of war and death. We are not trying to erase history by tearing these down, just trying to bring this world together instead of
