One of the biggest stories of the 2016 season was the Dallas Cowboys' rookie backfield of QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliott. The two took the league by storm while propelling the Cowboys to best record in the NFC. However, were they really the best rookies at their position. Or were Eagles' QB Carson Wentz and Bears' RB Jordan Howard better? And most importantly, who was the best rookie fullback of 2016. We'll break that down here.
Best Rookie QB
Dak Prescott vs Carson Wentz
Prescott: 17 games, 335/497, 3,969 yards, 26 TD, 5 INT
Wentz: 16 games, 379/607, 3,782 yards, 16 TD, 14 INT
Head-to-Head Matchups (2 games)
(1 Win) Prescott: 23/47, 324 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
(1 Win) Wentz: 59/86, 447 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT
Based on the stats above, it's clear that Prescott holds the edge over Wentz, especially considering that Prescott only threw eight passes in their end of season duel, which explains his low head-to-head numbers. Though Prescott had less of a load to carry (he had over 100 less attempts than Wentz did) his interception-per-attempt ratio was still better, averaging 99.4 attempts between each interception, compared to Wentz' 43.35.
