De-extinction is the process of resurrecting a species and creating an organism of that same species or one that resembles it. In the case of the process of de-extinction, the costs and risks of the process out weigh the benefits. Some costs are there is no way to be confident whether or not the species will be able to survive in the conditions of today’s environment and if the species does there is a high chance that they will greatly effect the ecosystem they are placed in. Why spend time and money on the undetermined when the research time and money could be spent on other more pressing issues? There are also many risks involved. There is no way to predict if the resurrected species will turn out to be an exact replica of the extinct species. …show more content…
Some in favor of de-extinction argue that the process possess more pros than cons. One could reason with de-extinction and explain that the process is “cool” and that it would be life changing to bring back a species that was once extinct. Others argue that it could provide scientific knowledge, technological advancement, environmental benefits and justice if the human race was the reason for the extinction of a certain species. Those whose reasoning’s are those, would also explain that it would quite possibly be interesting to watch, observe, and research those species whom have never been seen by those alive today. Passenger pigeons are one of the main focus species that those who support the process of de-extinction look at. Passenger Pigeons before becoming extinct helped supply people with a plethora of meat and might have assisted in the prevention of Lyme disease. If de-extinct, the extension of trees and forests that the passenger pigeons once resided in would no longer be in place and its main source of food, the American chestnut would also be practically
