In the year 1776, during the time of the American Revolution, a committee of five members were picked by Congress, our founding fathers, to compose a document stating the reasons for which they would create a new government to justify separating them from British Parliament. The main purpose for this document was to point out why it was necessary to disband themselves from Great Britain and become an independent country. During the Revolutionary war, Congress had gradually established their own army, currency and eventually the first United Colonies Post Office. They wanted to be a completely free nation, one that wasn’t clouded under England’s influence. This resolution came above water and was presented to Congress. It was written in three parts. A demand for complete independence from the British Empire, this would allow the colonies to be free from England and to govern their own country. Secondly, that the united colonies would secure an alliance with foreign countries, and lastly, they should create a unity of confederation. This resolution was postponed for a few weeks as not all members of Congress were on the same page with becoming independent. Delegates from few of the colonies, including New York and Maryland, were not given the proper authority to cast their vote. Some of the colonies even considered to reconcile their differences with England out of fear, as this would be an easier option than resort to what they thought as complete rebellion. With further debate and time, they appointed Thomas Jefferson to rough draft the first copy of the Declaration of Independence.
