The 2016 Presidential Campaign Intro The 2016 presidential election has gone down as one of the most shocking presidential campaign result in recent history. Most polling organizations and people did not anticipate the outcome of this election. The Presidential Campaign race was between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and business and reality TV personality Donald Trump.

The candidates started to announce their candidacy quite early because there would be no incumbent president and vice president running, Ted Cruz a Republican senator from Texas was the first major candidate to announce his presidential bid for 2016 in March of 2015. Hillary Clinton accepted her party’s nomination in front of 50,000 audiences. She was the first female presidential nominee for a majority party in United States history. Bernie Sanders, during the nomination, gave a speech, urging his supporters to back Clinton as well. Later on, she went on to denigrate the Republican nominee Donald Trump. She claimed that he has taken the GOP towards darkness and criticized him for his controversial comments on war veteran and Senator John McCain. On the other end of the spectrum, The Republican National Convention was held a week before the Democratic National Convention from July 18 to 21. Aforementioned business person and reality tv personality Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination in front of 18,000 people in Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland. There he proclaimed that America is in the moment of crisis, and terrorism has threatened the way of lives of many Americans. Then, he went on to repeat “Law and Order” several times, which was met with a loud applause by the crowd. Trump was going to be the president-elect of the United States. With rigorous campaigning and luck, he was able to gather enough electoral votes to defeat Clinton in a very close election. He was able to flip the blue wall states that no one expected would switch. Hillary Clinton, who lost the election gave a concession speech in front of her supporters, she congratulated him and told her supporters that there is still hope and they should work together with now president-elect Trump to make this country great. When the polls were counted it turned out that Hillary Clinton had won the popular vote, but Trump had won the Electoral college. Clinton won the popular by 2.9 million, but Trump won 306 Electoral College votes. This is the fifth time this has happened in U.S history. His victory can also be traced to a number of strategic decisions. He had several campaign visits to the rust belt states. His use of social media helped him get more coverage and was able to get his message to people more directly. Clinton in the other hand went for a different style of campaigning where she appealed to young voters and people of color but wasn’t as popular among older and white voters who made up a majority of the voting
