Enhanced Interrogation: CIA Agents Are Justified The average American makes hundreds of decisions on a daily basis; however, though they make these hundreds of decisions, very few of the choices have to do with the good of the country or saving lives. This is not the case for CIA agents. Just as the average everyday person makes decisions on a daily basis, so do these agents. The difference is that these agents are not trying to decide what sort of laundry detergent to use, or what time they need to have dinner ready. Americans who are looking for blood and want CIA agents prosecuted because they use enhanced interrogation when interviewing terrorists are unwanted. These men and women, the CIA agents, serve the country and face dangers that the average American never even hears about. They fight evil on a daily basis with very little regard for their own safety. Well, in the memo released by the Attorney General, the “line” drawn makes it clear as to what point these agents go too far. Section 7(9) of Title 18 of the U.S. Code states, “offenses committed . . . [.] on the premises of the United States . . . . including parts of buildings or land for the use of U.S. military . . .” (Attorney General 20) making it clear that any property or building under U.S. military control is considered a part of American soil. This means no interrogation techniques involving the interrogator making contact with the detainee are legal. The phrase “making contact” in legal terms translates to assault.
