Prior to Writing 010 I had no understanding as to how difficult research papers were formatted. My experience on being capable to write a well-developed research paper was beyond minimal. This assignment was by far one of the most challenging. As a second year college student I know what is expected of me. In order to have a successful college writing career I believe one needs to be capable of properly locating credible sources, provide citations and avoid plagiarism.
I began WRTG 101 this semester with minimal writing skills, and after numerous writing assignments and exercises I believe that I am now on my way to
Being in English 101 has impacted three different types of writing processes: drafting, revising, and editing. Before I started this class, I never made drafts; I only did pre-writes and the final copy of the essay. Now, I do the pre-writes, then type it and make the draft, and then fix any errors in it. Another writing process that has improved is revising because now instead of reading what I wrote myself, I let my friends, classmates, and teachers read it to see if they understand what I’m writing and if they see any errors. This makes my editing process easier because I know what mistakes I made.
emotionally). In my writing for the course I tried to incorporate these 3 factors into them. Specific skills and knowledge gained in ENG 112.I have come to appreciate writing in APA and MLA format. I did have some basic knowledge in writing in both APA and MLA format, but ENG 112 has helped me gained more depth in these areas. The first assignment on MLA basic document setup was very helpful.
The grade that I think to earn in Eng 1010 is an A. I practiced writing more frequently by keeping a daily journal. The journal helped to make writing a familiar part of my life and served as a continuing source of ideas for papers. I also wrote many helpful and important essays in
So far, the biggest thing that I have learned in English 1101 is the small things that I can do to improve my writing. Fixing small grammatical errors, such as a misplaced comma, can really improve the way that my writing looks and improve it. When it comes to learning about myself and what works best for me when writing, I’ve found that I do my best writing when I have facts and examples I can use to back up what I am saying. While I did well on the Literacy Narrative, I felt like my writing was actually better on the Evaluation Essay that we did. For the Literacy Narrative I was trying to think of exact quotes and paraphrase a situation that happened to me years ago, so the details may have been fuzzy to me.
In 9th century BC, Shammuramat was a Queen of Assyria and the first lady to rule without a man. According to historian Gwendolyn Leick, “This woman achieved remarkable fame and power in her lifetime and beyond.’’. She was powerful enough to have her own obelisk inscribed and it is accepted that she initiated a number of building projects and personally led military campaigns. If we glimpse into Egyptian History, the name Nefertiti (c. 1370 - c. 1336 BCE) comes up first.
Everyone needs to struggle in order to preform better. Writing has always been a strength of mine, but I found it a challenge to move from the high school, six-paragraph essay format that I had grown accustomed to. Throught the course of this semester, I was able to acquire many different skills in ENG 1101 that have helped me transition into more complex writing. These include various writing techniques, MLA formatting, writing for purpose, convincing my arguments and finding and properly using sources. The portfolio I have submitted is comprised of three works of writing that I completed for ENG 1101 over the last three months.
Transitioning from high school to college can be overwhelming. Before English 1301, I did not worry about preparing for college. I quickly realized that my little background in writing essays was not enough for college courses. Writing is not just a skill that I will need for English classes. In college, I will have to use effective writing skills in all my classes to complete research papers, essay tests and communicate with professors.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
I have improved vastly in certain areas of the class, such as constructing drafts, learning MLA documentation, and becoming familiar with my audience. I deserve to pass English 1121 because I have fulfilled all of the learning outcomes required for the course. My writing skills have improved enormously in this class. I have learned the importance of writing several drafts. Creating a rough draft and then simply changing a few things would then produce a poorly written paper.
While I do know some of the rules, due to my previous English teachers in school, there is still much that I do not know. But, through the course of this past semester I have learned a great deal about different and new rules. This class has taught me a great deal about writing and how to correctly write an essay. Writing is a system of many rules and is a way for people to express their creativity. This class has given me much room to express myself creatively and gain more knowledge.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
College is full of experience and to get that experience students need to get involved in campus and use all the resources that their campus offer. For my first semester at university I learned lots of information that helped me go through my first semester and I will keep using this resources until I graduate. and these resources are not just for school but also for my personal life. The first thing I have learned in college is how to manage my time and it's important to know that skill so that I would not waste time doing nothing and get schoolwork done and it won’t make me stressful because I have many assignment and project to do. and to always get done with my priority first which is my school work.
We wrote four paper assignments this quarter, two of them about the story we read in class, one from a story and outside material and one about English 101 class at itself which is this paper. We must submit the rough draft before the due date of the assignment, which helps us to have clarification from our instructor and from a classmate. I am always improving after each paper I wrote, because I follow up with the comment I received, edit my paper then make an appointment with my instructor before I submit my final draft. These comments make me feel confident in the next paper. Writing in something that you can improve your knowledge and the way of thinking, comparing to my papers, I will discuss how I developed revisions strategies, learned proper citation, and how pre-writing can help improve my writing.
