Factory Trawling is Bad Have you ever gone and seen a movie like Superman Dawn of Justice where an machine or entity reaps destruction in every direction levelling everything to dust, and when it’s done, you’re walking out of the cinema thinking ‘that was awesome, but that would never happen in real life’. Hate to break it to you, but a similar act of injustice is in process right now. It’s called factory trawling or bottom trawling, and it’s laying waste to the sea floor and killing ocean life. The truth is the world needs to put bottom trawling into a permanent time-out. It’s the worlds most destructive type of fishing, it’s creating bycatch, and is overfishing our seas. Around 100 million tonnes of fish are caught and killed in the space of time between when they leave to port and when they return. Firstly, if we stop this, it will allow fish populations and their ecosystems to recover and replenish themselves to ensure fishing for future generations and stabilise the ocean ecosystem. Secondly, if we stop this and find a better and more sustainable way to fish without the destruction of the ocean and massive wasted amounts of fish, the billions of dollars used to pay for the running of this practice, could be used for greater causes such as solving world hunger and finding a cure to deadly sicknesses such as
